If your organization has changed its domain name and you want to ensure all personnel records reflect the new domain, this guide outlines how domain updates are handled in Secureframe and the steps you may need to take—using Google Workspace as an example.
How Domain Updates Work in Secureframe
In most cases, Secureframe automatically updates personnel email domains through integrations, such as Google Workspace (Business Suite).
To ensure this works correctly:
- Confirm that the email attribute is locked and being synced for all personnel from the personnel profile edit modal.
- Note: If the email attribute is unlocked, the field is manually updated and NOT populated via the integration.
Here’s how it works:
- Automatic Sync: When your domain is updated in the connected integration (e.g., Google Workspace), Secureframe will reflect the new domain during the next sync cycle.
- Merging Records: In rare cases, you may need to manually merge personnel records in the Secureframe Personnel table, but this is generally uncommon.
- No Manual Updates Required: Unless there are specific syncing issues or discrepancies, no manual changes are needed within Secureframe.
Updating the Domain in Google Workspace
If your organization has updated its domain (e.g., from @oldcompany.com to @newcompany.com), follow the steps outlined in this Google Workspace support article to add and manage the new domain. https://support.google.com/a/answer/7502379?hl=en
The above article covers:
- Secondary Domain: For cases where you're looking to replace your primary domain with this new domain or if you want to add a new domain for a separate team or business unit.
- User Alias Domain: If you want to add email aliases (alternate email addresses) for existing users. Google Workspace will automatically create these aliases after you've added the domain.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
We were just acquired and we have changed our company name. Is it possible to easily update the domain in Secureframe to reflect our new email address?
- Yes, but we recommend making these update in your connected integration such as Google Workspace or Office 365 integrations, which will then be reflected during the next daily sync.
