Access Roles / Role Based User Access (RBAC)

Written by Brady Price

How to create new Access Roles

Access roles (aka Role Based User Access or RBAC) are critical for ensuring that users have the right level of permission to perform their tasks while protecting sensitive data and maintaining security.

Secureframe offers 3 default roles (Admin, Super Admin and Auditor) and these role settings are not customizable.

However, Super Admins can create a new role with flexible access to tailor to your companies needs.

  1. Head to the Personnel Page

  2. Click the gear icon in the top right corner

  3. Click on the Roles tab

  4. Click Create Role in the top right corner and provide a name

  5. Finally select the areas of the platform you wish this role to have access and save

Note: Only Super Admins can create new roles

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What should I do after my access role is changed to 'Auditor' in PCI Audit?

  • After your access role has been changed to 'Auditor' in PCI Audit, you should log out and then log back in. This action is necessary to apply the new permissions and enable you to update responses within the system.

What is the difference between Super Admin and regular Admin?

  • Super Admin is the highest access level in Secureframe and can access everything, including sensitive data and protected files such as background check reports and performance review reports.

  • Admin cannot view that sensitive data, cannot create/assign/change access roles for personnel, and cannot configure SSO authentication for alternate sign-in methods.

I tried to export Background Checks but I get the following error and nothing shows up in the export?

  • Certain exports like Background checks and Performance Reviews are sensitive and can only be exported by Super Admins.

Why does someone not appear in the Asset Inventory device owner picker?

    • The owner picker only lists personnel who have a Secureframe access role. Assign an access role on Personnel, then reopen the picker. Learn more in Asset Inventory Page Details.
